Nathaniel Plimpton is recurring character in Season 2 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and a series regular in Season 3. Nathaniel is a lawyer from a prominent family who technically is from the San Gabriel Valley but who is nonetheless from a very different world. When he collides with Rebecca and the people in her life, he affects everyone’s future.
On Nathaniel's first day as co-owner of Whitefeather & Associates, he threatens to fire 5 employees by Friday, if the firm is unable to make 250k. Rebecca accepts this task and works to find new clients. Nathaniel has lunch with Darryl where he explains he is majority holder, after purchasing his ex-wife's equity. Nathaniel sees Rebecca and Josh at dinner, where his presence taunts her after his earlier comments comparing Josh to a watercolor. The tension between Rebecca and Nathaniel rises, especially after Rebecca makes a comment about his relationship with his father. There differences comes to head when Rebecca chases him with a pen around the office. Nathaniel finally agrees to not fire anyone even after she missed the deadline due to her ability to acquire a new client.
Nathaniel first meets Rebecca in "When Do I Get to Spend Time with Josh?". He describes her as the only competent person working there and is happy to be working alongside her. Rebecca doesn't feel the same way and is against his decision to fire 5 employees. Nathaniel says he won't fire anyone if the firm makes 250k by Friday, an almost impossible task. Rebecca accepts the challenge and impresses Nathaniel with her ability to quickly find new clients and get a little dirty. Nathaniel also makes fun of Josh, Rebecca's boyfriend, and causes her to see him as an idiot. From the start they are able to get into each other's heads and push each others buttons.
